Gifted Education

Welcome To Gifted Education

  • Maysville clusters gifted students in grades 3 through 8 and a Gifted Intervention Specialist (GIS) serves students at the Elementary in grades 3 through 5.
  • Middle school students may be offered accelerated math in 6th and 7th grade and take Algebra I in 8th grade.
  • Also, 8th grade students may be offered Spanish I.

Superior Cognitive
Maysville uses the Otis Lennon Ability Test with second graders to determine giftedness. Students with an IQ of 126 or better qualify as gifted.
Specific Academic
Students who score well on the Terra Nova Test or have a high level of success academically are recommended to take the Stanford 10 Achievement Test. Those students scoring in the 95% or better qualify as gifted.
Parents and teachers are welcome to request an individual testing of their child/student. Using the Woodcock Johnson III Test, students are assessed and need to score 95% or better to qualify as gifted.
Visual and Performing Arts
Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center handles the identifcation of students in the visual and performing arts areas. There are panels of experts assembled to observe performances and judge art portfolios. Initially, teachers of art, music, and dance complete check lists to nominate candidates for assessment. The process may take several weeks to complete.
